Today we learn that the term intifada means, literally, in Arabic, "shaking off," and yet remain confused about its application (as the proper definition of an ongoing process) in France. By all reports, the French were there first. Could it be dear old Pierre has miscalculated?

Thanks to Michelle Malkin for her coverage, here (scroll down). The New York Sun looks at the phenomenon, here. The riots (which began a year ago and were characterized then as an undeclared intifada by the New York Sun, see here) continue one year later and even Frenchmen have begun to notice, at the rate of 14 injured officers per day, that--holy cow--they too may be at war.

" France's Interior Ministry reported that almost 2,500 police officers were "wounded" in the first six months of the year. Rescue workers need police escort in the Muslim dominated suburbs. The AP recently reported from Paris: "On a routine call, three unwitting police officers fell into a trap. A car darted out to block their path, and dozens of hooded youths surged out of the darkness to attack them with stones, bats and tear gas before fleeing. One officer was hospitalized, and no arrests were made. The recent, apparently planned ambush was emblematic of what some officers say has become a near-perpetual and increasingly violent state of conflict between police and gangs in tough, largely immigrant French neighborhoods."

No worries. Everything will be better when Hillary is elected, abortion at will is preserved, Madonna is appointed to the cabinet and we turn tail in Iraq, thus proving to violent Muslims everywhere that we Americans, like the French, are their friends.
