Bill Maher. Comedian? Journalist? Or something else.

HBO's Bill Maher has perhaps set a new indoor record for unprincipled "journalism." Watch his John Kerry interview on "Real Time" and get a good look at what's passing for entertainment on HBO. Sample: After Kerry says that a "big change" is coming to the American political scene in five weeks (that is, the midtern elections), Maher says, "I think you're just one sexually harassed page away from making that happen." Chuckles all around.
An excellent critique of the "interview," is here. Michelle Malkin weighs in here.
This is a confusing planet. The Real Time series proudly displays the banner, "Inconveniently Telling the Truth," here. And you can find a lengthy interview, Maher to HBO, here, in which he offers such jewels as...
HBO: Does everybody always assume you're a steadfast liberal?
Bill Maher: People who watch my show don't. It's just people that hear about me second hand.
Well, I saw the Kerry interview. If Maher isn't a liberal he's got a thing for weak-wristed men with long hair.
And also...
HBO: Do you have to make sure that everyone doesn't agree on everything?
Bill Maher: No, that's another huge difference. On the old show, we tried to set a snake against a mongoose, many times. And we did try to make sure there was ideological balance. On this show, very often, we don't.
I would hope the Kerry interview was one of those "unbalanced" shows, because to be less unbalanced Maher would have had to threaten physical violence against anyone who thought George Bush was a human being.
Our unbiased "journalist" goes on in the same piece to call Bush a moron and Americans who voted for him idiots. While we're name calling, Maher seems less the "comedian" our "journalist" than he does cheapshot artist and whore.
