Going Dutch

We learn from Michelle Malkin that The Dutch Justice Minister submits that Sharia Law in the Netherlands, if brought about by democratic processes, would be proper and good. "The meaning of democracy," don't you see, on display. Obviously my high school civics teacher wasn't as deep a thinker as the Dutch minister. He kept yapping about majority rule combined with minority rights. If I understand Piet Hein Donner, he believes that a 51% majority (say all women in the US) should be able to impose, say, mandatory neutering on the remaining minority of American males if only they did so with the vote. Sharia law, you see, imposes harsh penalties and second class status to women and those outside the friendly faith. Even if a longing for Sharia somehow overcame the Dutch (let's not count it out, didn't they invent the wooden shoe?) it's adoption would not be, as our Dutchman suggests, democracy in action. At least not in a 12th grade civics class.
